The Montgomery County First Responders Foundation, was created in 2017 after 9 of our members’ homes were flooded during Hurricane Harvey. We quickly realized that we had no available resource established to enable us to provide for our members and recognized the necessity to have immediate funds available to assist our members in the event of future natural disasters or other financial hardships. The Montgomery County First Responders Foundation has now expanded to provide financial assistance in instances of line of duty death or injury, property loss due to natural disaster or fire, assistance for significant medical expenses due to illness or injury, and any other financial hardships affecting ALL First Responders serving The Woodlands and throughout Montgomery County.

The fire service also continues to see unprecedented increases in the number of our members being diagnosed with cancer. Due to the increase in carcinogens in new building construction materials and in the textiles and products throughout our homes and vehicles that we are exposed to every day when we respond to these fires, these diagnoses will continue to rise, as will our need to advocate for cancer prevention in our chosen profession. We have been able to provide financial assistance for several of our members as well as other First Responders with other Montgomery County agencies that are currently fighting this horrible disease.

In addition, First Responders are now focused more than ever on the effects of our jobs on our behavioral health. We continue to lose more first responders to suicide every year than we do from line of duty deaths. Many agencies have put tools in place to assist their employees with behavioral health, but much more is needed. The Montgomery County First Responders Foundation has made the behavioral health of all first responders in The Woodlands and throughout Montgomery County a key priority so that we can assist them with their behavioral health and not just their physical health. We must end the stigma associated with seeking help and battling with depression or other mental struggles in order to bring about change and one day end the needless deaths of our First Responders to suicide.

We are now working to expand our assistance so that we may offer educational scholarships for qualifying dependents of First Responders as well as others within our community that wish to pursue a career in law enforcement, the fire service, EMS or dispatch/communications but do not have the financial ability to gain the necessary training.

The Montgomery County First Responders Foundation is a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization with the IRS (82- 3129014). All donations are tax-deductible.

Thanks in advance for your interest and support of all First Responders serving The Woodlands and throughout Montgomery County.
